COMMUNITY  DEVELOPMENT  CORPORATION

The Ujima Project

THE EMMANUEL RETIREMENT VILLAGE

When completed the new development  is expected to be comprised of seniors from the City and region that are seeking to either downsize their current residential situation or who are looking to find affordable supportive housing as they move toward retirement from full-time employment. Many may be retirees (or soon-to-be retirees) from Winston-Salem State University or other area institutions, and though not ready for assisted living, would like to move into an environment that is open, welcoming, and supportive of their personal and social needs/interests.

The complex’s services and amenities will include the standard amenities and general maintenance provided in many of today’s better independent living facilities, such as fully-equipped kitchens featuring dishwasher, range/microwave, garbage disposal, storage area, and refrigerator; washer and dryer hook-ups, generous closets; wall-to-wall carpeting; laminated flooring: window coverings; fire sprinkler and alarm system; individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. The CDC will also promote “green” construction design and energy saving features in the project whenever possible.
